How Fenway Web Brought Better Than Back to Life
Chris Dorrity needed more than a personal-brand website. Together, Chris and Fenway Web built a premium, story-driven platform for Better Than Back™ — a brand built to turn one man’s near-death comeback into a message that helps other people find theirs.
Every page had to carry weight. Chris Dorrity’s story — a pastor who lost his way to alcoholism, walked through recovery, then faced liver failure and a transplant — isn’t a marketing hook. It’s the proof behind the brand’s promise: “Don’t Just Come Back. Come Back Better.” Fenway Web designed ChrisDorrity.com to carry that story with the weight, and the hope, it deserves.
Meet Chris Dorrity
Chris Dorrity is a former pastor whose success gave way to alcoholism, recovery, and then a life-threatening illness that ended in liver failure and a transplant on April 8, 2025. Better Than Back is the platform he built out of that experience — not to tell people how impressive his comeback was, but to prove that their own story isn’t finished either.
The site’s guiding principle, and the one Fenway Web built every page around: Chris’s story should function as proof that the visitor’s story isn’t over — never as a highlight reel about Chris himself.
“I didn’t come back to become the person I was before. I came back to become better.” The website turns that line into the entire visitor journey — from the first headline to the final call to action.
The Framework
The Moment → The Message → The Miracle → The Ministry, paired with Mouth → Mind → Manifestation, gives visitors a memorable structure for Chris’s story instead of a generic biography.
Three Clear Paths
Every page funnels toward one of three actions: absorb the message, book Chris to speak, or start coaching — nothing on the site is a dead end.
Built to Feel Premium
Bold Inter typography, strong photography of Chris, and generous breathing room give the brand a powerful, hopeful, masculine-but-welcoming feel — deliberately not a generic life-coach site.
The Challenge: Tell an Unsanitized Story Without Losing Trust
A recovery-and-comeback story can easily slide into either oversharing or spin. Chris wanted the real, unsanitized version told — the drift, the alcoholism, the transplant — without the site ever feeling like it was trying to impress the visitor with how far he’d come.
Fenway Web built the entire site around one question applied to every page: Does this make the visitor believe their own comeback is possible?
What Fenway Web Built
- A framework-driven homepage
Hero, signature line, and the Better Than Back Framework and Mouth → Mind → Manifestation sections, closing with a “who it’s for” section built for both crisis and quietly-unfulfilled visitors. - Dedicated Speaking & Coaching pages
A booking-focused Speaking page built around the keynote “Better Than Back: The Lessons I Learned Dying That Taught Me How to Live,” and a Coaching page selling transformation through the Clarity → Identity → Purpose → Action → Momentum program, “The Better Than Back Experience.” - A real, unsanitized Story page
“From a Deathbed to a Life Mission” — telling the pastorate, the drift, the recovery, the liver transplant and the decision to build something out of surviving it. - A Resources hub
Chris’s book Connect or Die (with John Milton Fogg) and a free “Better Than Back Assessment” — a short quiz that scores visitors from Surviving to Unstoppable and captures their email to deliver results.
The Better Than Back Sitemap
Fenway Web organized the site around the three actions every visitor should be able to take, without ever making Chris’s story feel like the point instead of the proof.
| Website area | Purpose | Visitor value |
|---|---|---|
| Home | Introduces the brand, the transformation promise, and both frameworks immediately. | A clear first impression and a fast route to speaking, coaching, or the message itself. |
| About Chris | Tells Chris’s real story as proof, not as a highlight reel. | Builds trust before asking for a booking or an application. |
| Speaking | Positions the signature keynote for corporate, church, recovery, and leadership audiences. | Gives event organizers everything they need to book Chris. |
| Coaching | Sells “The Better Than Back Experience” as a transformation program. | An application-style CTA that filters for genuinely ready visitors. |
| Resources | Houses Connect or Die and the free Better Than Back Assessment. | A low-commitment way to engage before booking or applying. |
| Contact | Invites direct outreach for speaking, coaching, or media. | Turns an emotional read into a real conversation. |
Resources: Connect or Die & the Free Assessment
Chris’s 2019 book, Connect or Die (written with John Milton Fogg), lives inside the Resources section rather than as a standalone area — keeping the site focused on the three core actions while still giving returning visitors something new to engage with.
Alongside the book, Fenway Web built the “Are You Ready for Your Better Than Back Moment?” assessment: a free, three-minute quiz covering purpose, fulfillment, identity, relationships, career, and direction, which scores each visitor from Surviving to Unstoppable and collects their email to deliver full results and an invitation into the coaching ecosystem.
Designed to Feel Premium on Every Device
The brand had to read as powerful and hopeful without tipping into generic self-help territory. Fenway Web used bold Inter typography throughout, strong photography of Chris, and wide breathing room between sections so the story never feels rushed or crowded.
The site also includes a “Magic Moments From Chris” section pulling his most recent public posts, so the platform reads as a living, regularly-updated brand rather than a one-time launch.
